The buyer situation
Energy portfolios often contain assets, control systems, data sources, service arrangements and provider contracts established at different times and for different purposes. They do not automatically behave as one information environment. Similar operating conditions may be described differently, reporting may require manual interpretation, and responsibility for source quality or interface failure may be unclear.
The owner needed more than a central platform. It needed agreement on the decisions the information would support, the meaning and quality of the data, supplier obligations, acceptance evidence and ownership when source or interface conditions failed.
The mandate
Clarus Caelum's mandate was to coordinate the owner-side integration roadmap and delivery position across disparate operational data and provider outputs. The work connected business use, OT and SCADA interfaces, supplier delivery, data quality, assurance, acceptance and operational readiness.
The approach
1. Start with the operating decision
Users, decisions, required information, timeliness, quality and accountability were defined before the solution was framed. This prevented technology deployment from becoming detached from the operating outcome.
2. Make the information chain visible
Sources, definitions, ownership, interfaces, transformations, quality checks and destination uses were mapped into one controlled view. Ambiguity could then be treated as a delivery condition rather than hidden inside individual supplier scopes.
3. Align suppliers around the owner outcome
Scope boundaries, dependencies, evidence obligations, acceptance conditions and support responsibilities were clarified across providers. Specialist suppliers remained responsible for their work while the end-to-end owner outcome stayed visible.
4. Standardise the conditions for trust
Common reporting, alarm and event handling, data-quality controls and acceptance evidence were defined to support more consistent cross-asset interpretation.
5. Establish a staged route to operation
Integration, testing, readiness, ownership and support conditions were sequenced through a practical roadmap. This allowed value and delivery risk to be addressed progressively rather than relying on one final platform event.
